The Thing 2 by Walter Mosley and Tom Reilly
Backing up to the first issue of this new Thing solo series, Walter Mosley and Tom Reilly deliver another strong start. The book looks great, with colors by Jordie Bellaire that have the right mix of iconic and entrenched. The fight scenes are well choreographed and the layout design, with panels flowing out and past one another, draws the eye. Thing himself is very cool, and Reilly's deft linework brings out the best in his body.
In remote Antarctica, a group of US scientists at a base camp are attacked by a shape shifting creature that can take the form of anyone it touches. A resourceful helicopter pilot and the camp doctor lead the survivors in a desperate, gory battle to stay alive, while the monster systematically picks them off one by one.
A scalable chest rig component, The Thing 2 mounts on the front of the Micro Fight Chassis and allows for the addition of a pouch. Like the chassis, it features MOLLE on a semi-rigid woven polypropylene laminate sheet that's pre-cut with organisational daisy chains and male QD clips to support various pouches. The laminate also features heavy bar tacking for strength, and the rolled edge at the apex doubles as a Velcro field that's solidly attached to the chest rig.
A slick, scalable kit expansion for the Micro Fight Chassis, The Thing 2 makes a lot of sense. While I'd be cautious about pushing this to the limit of its raison d'etre (there's a whole world of patrol rigs that excel at heavier haulage), it does add a great deal of versatility and expands upon the MF chassis' modest capacity.
